Elon Musk’s sudden generosity will make Claude faster and cheaper

Just recently, Elon Musk publicly called Anthropic an “evil” company, accusing its developers of hating Western civilization and engaging in large-scale data theft to train their models. However, in the world of high technology, pragmatism and big money often take precedence over emotions and principles. SpaceX, which recently integrated the startup xAI into its organization, has announced the signing of a strategic agreement. As of now, developers of the Claude language model will have access to the immense computing power of the Colossus data center.

For Anthropic, this partnership is a real lifeline that will allow the company to lift the strict limits on AI usage that have been in place in recent weeks. With these new resources, the company promises to double the five-hour limit for the Claude Code tool in its Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans. In addition, for Pro and Max users, peak-hour restrictions—which previously blocked access to the service for most of the workday—will be completely lifted. At the same time, the speed of access to the Claude Opus API will also increase significantly, which is critical for developers.

Benefits for SpaceX

What prompted SpaceX to take this step? The main reason is financial. The company is expected to go public (IPO) later this year, and the improvement in its financial performance driven by the leasing of server capacity is likely to significantly boost investor interest.

Another reason lies in the scale of the infrastructure itself. The Colossus data center is equipped with 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs and consumes 300 MW of power. It is clear that the flagship AI model, Grok, simply isn’t generating enough demand to keep this massive system running at full capacity. What’s more, the next generation of the data center—Colossus 2, with a design capacity of 1 GW—is already operational, making the search for customers for the first version of the supercomputer a perfectly logical step.

Change of rhetoric: how Musk tested his competitors

Musk’s sudden change of attitude toward his competitors has raised quite a few questions. On his own social media platform, X, he explained his position by saying that he had spent a lot of time with Anthropic’s leadership last week. According to him, he tried to understand their plans for making Claude useful to humanity, and was “impressed.” Musk remarked ironically: “My evil detector didn’t go off on anyone,” so he’s calmly handing Colossus 1 over to Anthropic while SpaceX’s own teams transition to Colossus 2.

Birth of SpaceXAI and a new paradigm

This deal is taking place amid a global restructuring of Elon Musk’s assets. The startup xAI is officially being dissolved as an independent entity and will become a division of SpaceXAI—the artificial intelligence product development center within the aerospace corporation.

To many analysts, this looks like a surreal paradigm shift. The company, which has earned an impeccable reputation for sending astronauts into space and revolutionizing rocket technology, is now officially behind the development of an AI chatbot with no strict censorship restrictions. However, in today’s technological landscape, the lines between space exploration and neural networks are becoming increasingly blurred.
