Missile strike on Kyiv caught on video from the ISS

The YouTube channel AstronautiCAST has published a time-lapse video taken from aboard the ISS. It shows a missile strike on Kyiv.

The video was made on the night of December 26-27, 2025. There are 3,300 separate shots taken by Japanese astronaut Kimiya Yui’s camera.

At the moment when Kyiv comes into view (at 3:58 in the video), explosions can be seen in the area of the Trypilska Thermal Power Plant, flashes from air defense systems, and even two objects approaching the city. Apparently, these are Russian missiles. Since they did not reach Kyiv, they were most likely successfully shot down.

According to Ukrainian authorities, on the night the time-lapse was taken, Russia attacked Ukraine with ten Iskander-M/Kinzhal ballistic missiles and thirty Kh-101, Iskander-K, and Kh-22 cruise missiles. This was part of a large-scale Russian campaign of energy terrorism targeting the civilian population.

According to AstronautiCAST, this is the first time that combat operations have been captured on a time-lapse video taken from aboard the ISS.
