What is this event?

The NASA Space Apps Challenge is a 48-hour hackathon in which teams of participants solve one of several practical problems. All challenges are related to solving humanity’s problems using NASA’s open space data. Participants can, for example, propose their idea for a web application to forecast air quality, create an AI-based model for searching for exoplanets, develop a project for urban development strategies based on NASA’s open space data, or even write unusual prose.

Event theme: Learn, Launch, Lead. Global organizers invite participants to Learn useful STEM skills, Launch solutions that transform NASA open data into practical instruments, and Lead the community in technological change.

The hackathon has been held since 2012 and annually brings together tens of thousands of participants from around the world: in 2024, for example, a record number of more than 93,000 space enthusiasts from 163 countries joined the event. In Ukraine, the event has also gained a wide range of fans. Students, analysts, scientists, programmers, designers, writers, makers, engineers, developers, biologists, even musicians and artists join the NASA Space Apps Challenge every year to test their skills, showcase their talents, and find like-minded people.

The local stage of the hackathon in Dnipro is being held for the ninth time by the Association Noosphere, founded by entrepreneur and philanthropist Max Polyakov. The organizers offer the opportunity to join the 48-hour Space Apps marathon online from any city or even country, as well as to join the offline location in Dnipro. All participants will be assisted by experienced mentors in various fields, from coders and designers to presentation experts. The finished projects will be evaluated by local juries, which will include specialists from space companies. The winners of the stage in Dnipro will be sent for evaluation by global judges, who will select the 10 best projects from around the world. In previous years, teams from Dnipro were among the top contenders and won in global categories.

Winners of the local stage will receive prizes from the Association Noosphere, and all participants who submit a project for evaluation will receive welcome packs.
