The space game Lunar Strike from Cognition Studios offers an unconventional look at humanity’s future among the stars. Instead of intergalactic adventures and encounters with aliens, players find themselves on an abandoned lunar base, where daily survival takes precedence over grand discoveries.

What kind of game is this?
The story is set in 2119. According to the plot, global warming has exacerbated international conflicts, and religious fanaticism and government missteps have led to a nuclear catastrophe. Humanity has abandoned its ambitious space exploration plans and is now focused on survival.
The player takes on the role of a junior archivist who has been sent to the last lunar settlement. His task is to scan, document, and preserve the knowledge and history of human presence on the Moon.

A realistic base at the South Pole
The settlement in the game is located at the Moon’s South Pole, exactly where NASA plans to land as part of the Artemis program. This region is notable for its ancient lunar terrain and shadowed craters, where water ice may be present.
But over the course of a century without proper support from Earth, the base has become a place where equipment is patched up and reused. Some residents are born and spend their entire lives in airtight corridors under artificial lighting. The developers sought not to create a futuristic utopia, but a space that feels genuinely lived-in and worn.

A threat from within
Economic and environmental problems on Earth have fueled public hostility toward space programs. Some movements have escalated from political protests to radical actions. The extremist group MudBoots emerges as the game’s main antagonist and is preparing a large-scale attack on the lunar base.
At the same time, the game presents artificial intelligence in a positive light. In the world of Lunar Strike, it doesn’t rule the colony, but simply helps the people who live there.
Lunar Strike is scheduled for release in 2026, but no exact date has been set yet. The developers describe the game as a narrative adventure.
